Renewable Energy Investment Notes

In 2008, NGE launched an innovative new investment called a Renewable Energy Investment Note (REIN). REINs are simple, fixed interest, fixed term investments that allow socially conscious investors to directly support the creation of solar, wind, efficiency, and biomass projects. By purchasing a REIN, investors fund green energy projects that strengthen the environment and empower our communities.

REINs are offered in denominations from $1,000 to $1,000,000 and higher. The term of the note can be selected from 1 year to 7 years, and each term has a corresponding interest rate as shown in the table:

Each year that you own a REIN you will receive statements that tell you how much interest you have earned, what projects your investments supported, and how much clean energy your investments created.

To create an investment with minimum overhead, NGE utilizes the Eleemosynary Exemption of Federal Securities Law. Use of this financing mechanism significantly lowers the financial costs of selling public securities, and this in turn lowers the cost of capital for projects. NGE is the first organization to use this ground breaking approach to support renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.
